A great opportunity to get involved in supporting the development of talented young athletes in Gippsland!
The Gippsland Sports Academy (GSA) has several positions open on our Board of Management.
GSA is a community-based organisation providing training, development and support services for young athletes who are on a high-performance pathway.
The GSA covers all areas of Gippsland, working closely with local sporting bodies, State Sporting associations and the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) to assist athletes to compete at Regional, State and National levels. The program aims to identify athletes who can progress to World Championships, Olympic, Paralympic & Commonwealth Games.
The Board is made up of members from a range of professional backgrounds, with its primary role being to oversee administration of the Academy to ensure it is achieving its objectives, and that it remains relevant and viable for its members and stakeholders.
The Board:
- Determines GSA strategic direction, core values and ethical framework,
- Approves and monitors the financial and non-financial performance of the organisation, including identification and management of any risks,
- Ensures that policies on key issues are in place and appropriately implemented,
- Oversees the employment of the Executive Officer and staff of the Academy,
- Ensures the organisation complies with all relevant laws, codes of conduct and appropriate standards of behaviour.
About you
We are looking for individuals who will bring expertise and/or experience in one or some of the following areas:
- Experience or knowledge in sporting areas
- Human Resources
- Financial and accounting
- Legal
- Corporate governance, regulatory processes, policy
- Risk management
- Philanthropy, sponsorship
About the role
Board appointments are voluntary, and are for an initial 2-year term with the option for reappointment.
Commitments will include:
- 4 annual Board meetings (virtual)
- 1 AGM dinner (in person)
- Participation in at least one board sub-committee (virtual meetings)
- Attendance at Annual Awards night (in person)
- Attendance at Gippstar Awards night (where possible)
- Participation in strategic planning meetings (as required)
