GIPPSTAR – November Winners
The November Junior Gippstar Award Winner is Connor Johnston of Maffra for his achievements in his sport of Hockey. Connor has played for Maffra Hockey Club since he was 8 years old. After just 5 years he has represented Gippsland U13 twice at State Championships and was selected to represent Victoria as a Goalkeeper in the U13 National Carnival in Hobart.
The November Open Gippstar Award Winner is Cohen Wade of Stratford for his achievements in Modern Pentathlon/Tetrathlon . Although still a junior, Cohen competed in the senior section at the Waikato Modern Pentathlon Festival in New Zealand coming home with the Silver medal. Cohen also competed at the Modern Pentathlon Victoria State Laser Run Championships – Laser run is the shoot/run component of the Modern Pentathlon and has been developed as a stand alone event. Cohen completed 5 repetitions of 600m and 5 shots to make a total of 3kms and 20 shots in a personal best time on a wet soggy track to claim the gold medal. At the Modern Pentathlon Victoria State Triathle Championships, held in Geelong, Cohen was a standout performer taking out the open male section by over a minute and a half to claim the gold medal. The Triathle is another of the stand alone speciality events derived from Modern Pentathlon, this involves a continuous format of Running 600m, shooting 5 shots, swimming 50m done in four repetitions to complete a total of 3km run, 20 shots and 200m swim
