MAY/JUNE GIPPSTAR WINNERS 2023/24

May Gippstar Award winners: both of our winners participate in the sport of Surf Life Saving Beach Sprint & Flags and are active patrol members with Surf Life Saving Clubs.
Junior winner Zali Gallagher, 17 of Sale, has a long list of achievements: Surf Lifesaving Championships, U19 Beach Sprint – Final 6th; Silver Medal u19 Beach Relay; Victorian Surf Lifesaving Championships – Gold Medal U19 Beach Sprint; Victorian Lifesaving Championships March – Silver Medal u19 Beach Flags; Silver Medal open Beach Flags; Silver Medal open Beach Sprint; Gippsland Power U18 team; competed at Victorian Life Saving State Carnivals 2023-2024 season as an u19 and open competitor in beach events; she trains with Seaspray Beach Squad, Gippsland Track Club and Anglesea SLSC and Team Captain for Gippsland Power u18 Women’s team.
Our Open winner Jessica Jackson, 22 of Seaspray, has her own long list of achievements: Jessica has recently competed in the Surf Lifesaving Championships where she finished =9th, one spot off the final 8 in Open Beach Flags; in the Surf Lifesaving Super Surf League Open Beach Flags she finished 4th ; in the Life Saving Victoria State Carnival Lorne, in the Open Beach Flag she finished First Place Pennant. Jessica has many achievements to date including Victorian Team Selection in the Super Surf League Surf Life Saving, Maroubra NSW; Victorian Team Selection Carnival Ocean Grove December; Open Beach Flags 1st place pennant; and Victorian Lifesaving State Carnivals Pt Leo and Lorne Open Beach Flags 1st place pennants. Jessica is part of the Lifesaving Victoria High Performance Squad, a dedicated Patrol member, IRB driver Seaspray SLSC and Seaspray Beach Captain. She also coaches/trains nippers and youth (also assisting at local nipper carnivals/beach events) while training with Seaspray Beach Squad, Gippsland Track Club and Anglesea SLSC.  Congratulations Zalie & Jessica!
June Gippstar Award winners:
Junior winner Matilda Read, 14 of Boolarra, recently competed in the 2024 Chemist Warehouse Australian Athletics Championships in Adelaide where her results were: 2nd U15 girls 3000m walk (in a personal best time of 15:38.37); 4th U14girls 1500m walk. In the 2023/24 LAVIC State Track and Field Championships – Knox she came 1st in the U14girls 1500m walk. Some of her other achievements are: 1st – U15 3000m walk Victorian Track and Field Championships – Lakeside 3/3/24; 1st – U15 3000m walk Victorian All Schools Championship – Lakeside 2023; 1st – U12-U15 1500m walk SSV State Championship – Lakeside 16/10/23.
Open winner Daniel Barry, 34 of Traralgon, competed in the 2024 Ironman New Zealand where he was crowned Overall Age Group Champion & also in the 2024 Ironman 70.3 Port Macquarie where he became the back-to-back Overall Age Group Champion. Daniel has qualified for 2024 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii (October) and the 2024 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Taupo, NZ (December) and is undefeated in all Triathlon events in 2024.  Well done Matilda & Daniel!
